We know it’s scary when your pet breaks a limb. Sydney Animal Hospital prides itself on being able to offer plating for repair of fractures. Plating involves placement of very strong plates screwed into the bone to help hold a fracture in alignment while it heals; this is also known as “internal fixation”. This eliminates bulky casts and helps the fracture heal more quickly by ensuring the bones are held precisely in place. Further information on the benefits of internal fixation can be found from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Below you’ll find a before and after radiograph (“x-ray”) of radius fracture repair performed by Dr Ruth Parker on an Italian Greyhound.
