Dr. Ruth Parker was born and raised on a mixed farm in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. She completed an Honours degree in Biology at Mount Allison University with several academic awards. In 1990, she graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College with awards in animal behavior and surgery.
Dr. Parker returned to Nova Scotia and discovered the beauty of Cape Breton and its inhabitants. After two years of practice, she purchased Sydney Animal Hospital from Dr. Ross Ainslie. She personally designed the new animal hospital and constructed the only pet crematorium on Cape Breton Island. Dr. Parker also introduced direct digital radiology, cold laser physiotherapy and laser scalpel technology to Cape Breton’s pets. Dr. Parker routinely attends continuing education conferences and has completed training in fracture repair using plates with locking screws.
Dr. Parker’s passions include her three Dutch Warm Blood horses, her Chihuahua and several cats. She also loves travel, birding and wildlife photography.
